Minetta Fae Siewert Zimmermann was born on March 5, 1939, in Buffalo, SD and went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 24, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Minetta grew up as the youngest of four children on the family farm in SD. She completed 1 st grade in the one-room Vessey schoolhouse near Haley, ND and then moved to Hettinger, ND where she continued her education at Hettinger Public School through grade six. She spent her 7 th and 8 th grades at the Johnson School in Perkins County and then moved back to Hettinger where she graduated from Hettinger High School. Her senior year, Minetta was crowned Homecoming Queen. Seeing the beauty she was, both inside and out, Henry quickly "put a ring on it" and proposed to Minetta shortly following her graduation.
Minetta and Henry were united in marriage on August 25, 1957, in Hettinger, and made their home on the family farm where they jointly farmed, ranched and ran a dairy farm. They sold the dairy portion of their farm in 1979 and continued to farm and raise range cattle until 2019. Minetta was adept at running all farm machinery and could be found vaccinating cattle, hauling hay bales and graining calves. She had a passion for the outdoors, trees and all wildlife, and advanced this cause by serving 5 years as a Board Member of the Adams County Soil Conservation District until 2018.
Minetta was a superb homemaker who clearly knew her way around the kitchen and seemingly was always able to prepare a meal for others at a moment's notice. Minetta & Henry's door was always open and many special memories were made around their kitchen table. She was an excellent seamstress, quilter, and afghan-maker, as well as cake decorator and gardener.
Minetta played piano for church for many years and played entirely by ear. Loving Christian music, she and Henry sang for many funerals throughout her lifetime. Minetta's unwavering faith shone above all else and it is the lasting legacy she leaves all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Never one wanting center stage, Minetta was one to sit back and listen, typically only offering her opinion when asked. But not to be fooled, she had a great sense of humor and would oftentimes catch us off guard with her witty observations and occasional eyeroll. She loved to laugh and always had a smile on her face.
Minetta and Henry raised their three children in Hettinger. Minetta instilled the importance of faith and family to her children and their spouses, seven grandchildren and their spouses, and great-grandson.
Minetta is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Henry; children, Ron (Mary) Zimmermann, Ardelle (David) Ferris, & Gaylyn, aka Buffy, (Duane) McGregor; grandchildren, Bryn (Carter) Babb, Matthew (Erica) Ferris, Michael Ferris, John Ferris, Coy Zimmermann, Kristin McGregor and David McGregor; and great-grandson, Tully Ferris; brother, Manley Siewert; many nieces and nephews.
Minetta is preceded in death by her parents, Jacob & Meniva Siewert; sister, Pearletta Drolc; brother, Duane Siewert; and great-granddaughters, Shiloh and Selah Babb.
Visitation is on April 30, 2023, from 2-3pm MDT with service of celebration beginning at 3pm MDT, both at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, 104 3 rd Ave N., Hettinger, ND with Rev. Tom Davis presiding. Interment after the funeral will be at the Hettinger Cemetery with dinner served immediately following at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church.
