MILTA EMMA KETTERLING "Millie" was born on July 28, 1923 at Heil, ND to John and Katherine (Hoffer) Ketterling. She grew up in Heil and attended grades one through eight in Heil and graduated from Elgin High School in 1941. During her high school years, she was an outstanding track athlete. Millie passed the Teachers Exam and taught in the Heil School for two years.

She was united in marriage to Reinhold Zimmerman on October 25, 1942 at Elgin, ND. They began their life together on the Christ Zimmerman homestead south of New Leipzig. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the Dachtler place northeast of Elgin and lived on additional farms in the area. In 1952, they moved into Elgin. Seven children, Donald, Roderick, Wayne, Mark, Glee, Dell, and Becky were born to this union.

In the 1960's, Millie began working at the Jack-n-Jill Store where she continued to work until 1977. She traveled with her husband while he was working road construction and over the years had made many good friends. In 1960, Milta and Reinhold purchased a home that once served as Elgin's first hospital. Over time the two of them worked to completely remodel their home. Her husband passed away in 1982. Millie continued to live in her home and when her health began to fail she was cared for by her daughter, Becky in her home. She passed from this life there on Sunday morning, December 13, 2015 at the age of 92 years, 4 months, 25 days.

She was a member of the German Ladies Aid. She loved working in her yard maintaining her flower beds. Millie could often be found crocheting Afghans for family and friends while listening to books on tape. In addition, she spent countless hours setting together puzzles with her good friend and neighbor Ida Bender.

Millie is survived by her two daughters, Glee (Joseph) Mayer, Minot, ND; Becky (Jerry) Imhoff, Elgin, ND; two sons, Donald (Lura) Zimmerman, Stratford, TX; and Mark Zimmerman, Bismarck, ND; 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sons, Roderick, Wayne, and Dell Zimmerman; 2 granddaughters, Anisa Potts and Misty Zimmerman; 2 brothers, Alvin and Reuben Ketterling; 3 sisters, Viola Becker, Irma Bellon, and Arlene Kramer.
