Melvin Amende age 68 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday November 29, 2006 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Monday December 4th at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with Rev. Gail Arnold officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
Melvin Amende was born December 26, 1937 in Sheridan Wyoming. He was the son of Raymond and Jessie (Huson) Amende. Melvin grew up on the family ranch near Broadus Montana. On July 25, 1959 he was united in marriage to Muriel Steckman in Belle Fourche. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage and to this union four children were born, Monica, Mark, Mashon, and Monte. Following their marriage Melvin worked at the Farmers and Ranchers Coop and the Hubbard Feed Mill in Belle Fourche. He later became a carpenter, working for himself and for several years with Henderson Construction as a Foreman. In the mid 1980's he worked in Maintenance at the Black Hills State College. In 1991 he was forced to retire due to his M.S. diagnosis. Muriel died in 2005.
Melvin was a member of the United Methodist Church and a past member of the Belle Fourche Jaycees. He loved working with wood and carpentry projects, especially fixing things around the home. When he was diagnosed with M.S. and forced to retire, Melvin refused to give up on life. Nothing was going to stop him from his hobbies and social activities. He enjoyed having coffee with his friend and music was important to him as well. He enjoyed singing, and playing guitar and harmonica. Melvin was a good father and grandfather, and he will be missed greatly by his family.
Survivors include his children Monica (Mark) Herchick of Bedford OH, Mark (Svetlana) Amende of Mankato MN, Mashon Amende of St. Paul MN, Monte (Michelle) Amende of Belle Fourche; 8 grandchildren, Mathew, Molly, Nicolai, Merry, Eric, Scott, Miles and Madeleine; 1 great grandchild; brothers, Larry Amende of Weston WY, Bruce (Lorraine) Amende of Recluse WY, Dennis (Rita) Amende of Hayden Lake ID; sisters, Nancy (Gordon) Gould of Miles City MT, Carol (Dick) Elshire of Whitehall, MT.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Virginia Kramer.
