MAYME AMANDA THORMODSGARD was born on January 25, 1918 in Hettinger, ND to Nels and Dagna (Sanderson) Thormodsgard. When she was very young, her family moved to a farm 14 miles north of Hettinger in Adams County, ND. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mayme was raised on her parent's farm and attended Taylor Butte country school and later Hettinger High School. She also attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN.
After returning back to North Dakota she was united in marriage to her life-long friend and neighbor, Andrew Erickson on December 24, 1937 at her parent's home. To this union eight children were born. Mayme, Andrew and their family resided on their farm 18 miles north of Hettinger where she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed her garden and her strawberry patch. Mayme was an active member of the Richland Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide, was a faithful worshipper and loved to sing. She was a great lady who devoted her life to her family and will be remembered for only speaking kind and caring words and as a person who said "Thank You" for any and every act of kindness shown to her, no matter how small. She was always active and continued to have a positive attitude even after she accidentally broke her hip in 2003. Since that accident, Mayme has resided at the Hillcrest Care Center in Hettinger, ND where she passed from this life on Sept. 28, 2006 at the Hillcrest Care Center. She will be forever missed by all who knew her and her wonderful smile.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband and life-long friend, Andrew Erickson, of Hettinger; sons, Norris (Tammy), Vern (Dyanne), and Lynn, all of Hettinger, Andy, of Reeder, ND; daughters, Janette (Gaylord) Wilkie, of Dickinson, ND, Alice (Jon) Seamonds, of Hettinger, Ruth (Roger) Kirschmann, of Bismarck and Mary (Harry) Ehlers, of Reeder; very special friend, Arly Goplin, of Hettinger; 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Dale Thormodsgard, of Hettinger and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
