Mathilda Weickum's Obituary
Mathilda "Tillie" Weickum, age 84 of Mott, passed away Friday morning, September 3, 2010 after a three month battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott. Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Sunnyslope Cemetery.
Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz, MiChelle Finck, Justin Zich, and Stacey Lovelace.
Serving as casketbearers are Louis Dennis, and Doug Boknecht, Rodney and Daryl Stieg, and Alan Carroll. Tillie's grandchildren, Scott Kean, Karil Kuntz, Stacy Lovelace, Justin Zich, Caitlin Chernenko, Cayce Chernenko.
Mathilda Kuehn was born August 5, 1926 to Simon and Wilhelmina Kuehn in rural Hettinger County. She was the youngest of nine children. As a young girl, Tillie attended the Solon Township Country School and helped on the family farm herding sheep and attending to other chores.
On September 21, 1948 Mathilda married Edvin Weickum, they made their home, four miles North of Burt, ND. They were blessed with five daughters, Linda, Donna, Carla, Sandra, and Rhonda.
Tillie loved her home and you could always find her and Ed spending time remodeling. They also enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafting and playing cards together. Edvin passed away on July 2, 1990. In 1994 Tillie, bought a house and moved to Mott. She then spent her time attending community events, bowling, gardening, playing cards, visiting with neighbors, feeding the birds and squirrels, volunteering at the museum, and making quilts at the Trinity Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being an active member. The friends she made in Mott were very near and dear to her heart.
Grateful for sharing her life are her four daughters; Linda Keene, Boca Raton, FL, Carla (Dale) Zich, Mott, ND, Sandra (Reed) Chernenko, Bakersfield, CA, Rhonda Weickum, Dickinson, ND; six grandchildren, Scott (Stacey) Kean, Karil Kuntz, Stacy (Shannon) Lovelace, Justin (Mary) Zich, Caitlin Chernenko, and Cayce Chernenko; eight great grandchildren, Zachary Kean, Mackenzie Kean, Brandon Kean, Abigail Lovelace, Brayden Lovelace, Ethan Zich, Bella Zich, and Lilly Zich; and one brother, Simon Kuehn, Burt, ND.
Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; Simon and Wilhelmena Kuehn, her husband, Edvin; one daughter, Donna, four brothers; Johnny Kuehn, Albert Kuehn, Henry Kuehn, Edward (Shorty) Kuehn; and three sisters, Emma Roesler, Martha Boknecht and Minnie Stelter
