Their only son was born to them February 14, 1945. 1974 the farm was sold and they moved to Carson. John worked in construction after that. Mary worked as a homemaker for Social Services for 5 years. She then went to work for the Carson School as the 2nd cook for 7 years.

In 1989, John's health began to fail so Mary retired to care for him. She lived in her house for 6 years after John's death on October 12, 1991. She loved her flowers, quilting, cooking and playing pinochle with her dear friend Hilda Shatz and sister in law, Freida Traxel. She moved into the Carson Manor in 1997. Mary then moved to Dakota Hills in Elgin where she lived happily. She then moved into the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin in February of 2010. She passed from this life there on Sunday morning, November 4, 2012 at the age of 87 years, 3 months, 12 days.

She was a member of the Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Carson, where she really loved serving the Lord.

Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sue Traxel, Renton, WA, three grandchildren, Max (Debby) Traxel, Spokane, WA, Charles, Renton, WA, and Jennifer (Norman) Gilbert, Blain, WA, six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, Jacob, Johnathan, Natalie and Colin; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
