Obituary

Funeral services for Mary Adelaide Randall, age 99, of Prairie City, SD, will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Beckman Memorial Wesleyan Church in Prairie City, SD. Pastor Brad Burkhalter will officiate with burial in the Prairie City Cemetery.

Mary Adelaide Fuller was born on December 12, 1911 to Marion and Eva (Quimby) Fuller at her grandmother's house in Hettinger, ND. She was married to Kenneth Randall, Sr. on September 7, 1930. To this union four children were born. Mary and Kenneth were together for 43 years when Kenneth passed away in October of 1973.

They farmed with Mike McCaffery until 1947 when Kenneth and Mary bought the Andy Thybo place on Rabbit Creek. Mary continued to live on and operate the ranch after Kenneth's passing. She loved to continue gardening as she had done many years with her husband. Mary still raised a garden until about 2001 when it became more difficult to do so. She was known for having a green thumb; she could grow just about anything and always had beautiful flowers and abundant gardens.

For 72 years, Mary belonged to the Hand-E-Hands Extension, which she enjoyed doing very much. Mary was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was the clerk for the Maltby Township and she and Kenneth Sr. also spent many years as the area 4-H Leaders.

In December of 1967 Mary and Kenneth joined the Homme Lutheran Church in Prairie City, SD and remained faithful members for many years. When the church closed, she began attending the Beckman Memorial Wesleyan Church. During her years as a widow, Mary painted many pictures, a pastime activity she loved to do. She also took up bowling when there was a bowling alley in Bison, SD and enjoyed bowling with many of her friends.

Mary was a loving, kind and patient person. She was a friend of many and her award winning smile made all she met feel great. She was one of a million! Mary always found time for everyone and her laugh was contagious.

Mary passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the Western Horizon Care Center in Hettinger, ND just 75 days shy of her 100th birthday.

Surviving family members include her two sons, Kenneth (Judith) Randall, Jr. and Michael (Natalia) Randall; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward and John Fuller; one sister, Jane (Fuller) Hobbs; two daughters, Joann Smith and Eva Quatier.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday afternoon at the Beckman Memorial Wesleyan Church.
