Mary Reinhardt was born August 2nd, 1911 in Russia. As a toddler, Mary immigrated to America with her family and they lived in Kilmanagh Michigan, Worland Wyoming, and Deaver Wyoming and later settled in the Vale and Belle Fourche area. Mary was a member of the first class of students at the Ingersoll Country School (and her granddaughters Jana and Jinger were in the last group of students). In 1931, Mary was married to Jacob Herman in Belle Fourche. Following their marriage they farmed and ranched 4 miles east of Belle Fourche. In 1978 they retired and moved into town. Jacob died in 1987.

Mary will be remembered for many things such as being a hard working farm wife, and her ability to make beautiful pies. She had a perfectionist nature and it was visible in the beautiful flower and vegetable gardens she grew, and the way she kept up her home. In her younger years, Mary enjoyed fishing, sewing and mending, and being a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed birds as well. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother and she loved to hold her grand and great grand babies. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Mary is survived by her sons, Marvin Herman of Minneapolis, Jack (Liz) Herman of Belle Fourche, Donald (Carol) Herman of Minneapolis; 9 grandchildren, Jana Herman, Jinger Clyde, Jodi Scherr, Hazel Berner, Duane Lauck, LeAnn Anderson, Billy Herman, and Shannon Herman; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter; brother, John (Virginia) Reinhardt of Wyoming; sisters, Betty (Dave) Schmid of Belle Fourche, Frieda (Duane) Mailoux of Montana; and nieces and nephews.
