Obituary

Marvin H. Kallis, age 70 of New Leipzig, ND passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Jacobson Memorial Hospital in Elgin.

The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am MT Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig.  Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial in the Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery northwest of New Leipzig. A private family burial will be held at the Ebenzer Baptist Cemetery northwest of New Leipzig at a later date.

Marvin Harry Kallis was born on the farm on February 2 nd , 1949 to Arnold and Irene Kallis.  He graduated from New Leipzig High School.  He continued to work on the family farm and drove a local bus route.  While driving his bus route, he met his beautiful wife Connie Klein in 1969. Not wasting any time, Marvin married Connie on May 9 th , 1970 in Mott, ND.

Marvin was an active member of the community. He farmed for many years on the family farm and did custom spraying and hay grinding.  He was a volunteer fire fighter and member of the ambulance squad.  Marvin was a referee for Independent Basketball. He will probably be remembered by many generations because he attended several sporting events to support the local teams and even won the biggest jock award.  Marvin drove the activities bus for New Leipzig and Elgin schools.  The students will always remember him for his laugh, teasing, support, and discipline when need.  Students all have many memories and stories to tell about their time with Marvin driving the bus.  For ten years, Marvin worked on Main Street when he and Connie owned Family Food Center.  Marvin never stopped moving.  Even in  his later years, he continued to find things to do.  He worked for area farmers and stayed home to care for Connie.

Marvin was a hard man, but he could have a soft heart. He was always willing to help others.  You may not have seen it, but he did it.  If you ever needed something, or were in trouble, he was there. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, obnoxious laugh, and pure orneriness. He taught his children to work hard and instilled a great work ethic in each of us.  For that, we are grateful.

Throughout the years, Marvin enjoyed farming, horses, playing basketball, going fishing, planting a garden, building and making things for his yard, and always taking pride in the things he had no matter how big or small they were.  He did love his grandchildren very much not matter how growly he pretended to be at times.  Because it's easy to fool the eye, but it's hard to fool the heart. Marvin always tried to fool the eye. He did not fool our hearts.

He is survived by his loving wife Connie, New Leipzig, ND; daughters, Theresa (Casey) Wolf, Bismarck, ND; Kristie (Scott) Tschida, Fort Rice, ND;  Carrie (Mark) Duppong, Glen Ullin, ND; son, Tim (Kelsy) Kallis, Mandan, ND; 12 grandchildren; and his father, Arnold Kallis, New Leipzig, ND.

He is preceded in death by his mother Irene Kallis, New Leipzig, ND.
