Marvin "Goober" Frieze (77) of Mott, North Dakota, passed away surrounded by family on January 3, 2025, at Edgewood Vista in Mandan, ND.

Funeral services for Marvin Frieze will be held at 10:00 a.m. MT (11:00 a.m. CT) on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott, ND, with Visitation one hour prior.  Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial to be held at 2:00 p.m. MT (3:00 p.m. CT) at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan, ND, where he and his beloved wife Wendy will be laid to rest together.

Marvin Jerome Frieze was born to Michael and Elizabeth Frieze on October 29, 1947, in Burt, ND. He attended school in Burt and later in Mott, spending his childhood working on the family farm alongside his five siblings. Marvin joined the Army National Guard at 19, serving for six years as a Pioneer.

On October 18, 1969, Marvin married the love of his life, Wendy Meyer. They were inseparable and built a life together in Mott, ND, where they raised their three kids and enjoyed nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage. Wendy's passing in 2019 left a hole in Marvin's heart, but we are comforted knowing they are together again. Together, they shared a love of gardening, owning and operating "Goober's Greenhouse" for many years, where they helped others create beautiful gardens of their own.

Marvin spent his career hauling propane and filling anhydrous tanks, including many years with Fitterer Oil. He loved his work and his customers, often saying he "never worked a day in his life." In his free time, Marvin could typically be found tinkering in his garage or woodshop, watching Bison football, listening to polka music (his favorite band was Rocky and his Happy Valley Gang), or spending time in the garden admiring his and Wendy's work, always with a cold Pepsi in hand.

Marvin held many roles in his life, but none more important than the role of "Papa" to his 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A verifiable "baby hog," he spent countless hours rocking each one. The image of Papa in his blue recliner, lovingly rocking his grandbabies, will live on in the hearts of his family forever.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Edgewood of Mandan and CaringEdge Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Marvin during his time with them.

Marvin is lovingly remembered by his son, Jeremy (April) Frieze of West Fargo, ND; his daughters, Stephanie (Mark) Jochim of Flasher, ND, and Leah Hustad of Fargo, ND; his 12 grandchildren, Josh (Ashley) Jochim, John (Alex) Jochim, Sara Jochim, Christian (Abby) Hustad, Grace (Jaret) Lennie, Sydney Frieze, Isaac Jochim, Conner Hustad, Madelyn Hustad, Sophia Jochim, Kennedy Frieze, and Ella Hustad; and 3 great-grandchildren, Amelia Jochim, Layne Jochim, and Everett Lennie. He is also survived by his brothers, Floyd (Arlene), Leonard, and Melvin Frieze, as well as his dear friends Willard and Jeanette Harsch and David Glaser.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wendy Frieze; his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Frieze; his brothers, George and Mike Frieze; and his sisters, Lorraine Schweiger, Lena Frieze, and Eva Frieze.
