Obituary

Marvin E. Dannenfelzer, 78, of Hettinger, ND passed away peacefully at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND on February 21, 2023.

Memorial service for Marvin will be held at 1:30 p.m. MT at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND on Saturday, March 11, 2023.  Rev. Allen Wickstrom will officiate.  A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service.

Marvin will be laid to rest at the North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery with Full Military Honors at a later date.

Marvin was born on February 19, 1945, at the Springer Hospital in Hettinger, ND, to Elmer and Alma (Olson) Dannenfelzer.  He attended elementary grades in Regent, ND and then graduated from Hettinger High School in 1963.  Marvin began his military career by joining the local Army National Guard Unit.  Later he enlisted in the US Navy and completed 2 tours of duty in Vietnam.  Upon his discharge from the Navy, he relocated to Billing, MT and worked for the US Post Office.   He still had the urge for military life so he re-enlisted in the US Air Force.  His time in the Air Force was spent in Korea, Hawaii and many bases stateside.  Marvin's last stop was Ellsworth Air Base in Rapid City, Sd.  He retired from there in September 1987 after serving 20+ years in the US Military.

He remained in Rapid City for a number of years as a local mail carrier.  After retiring from the US Postal Service, Marvin could be seen driving around town with his dog (Whiskers and later Bobo) on his lap.  He made regular stops at the Country Club, Mirror Lake, Main Street or an approach along Hwy 12 between Reeder, ND, and Lemmon, SD.  Marvin had a big heart and got great satisfaction when he could share candy with the kids on Halloween or give a few dollars of spending money to the children of his relatives and friends.  He always had a sense of humor and liked to joke with the doctors, nurses and caregivers.  Whenever he called his nieces and nephews, he always began with "it's your good-looking uncle."

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Alma Dannenfelzer, his siblings, Ralph Dannenfelzer, Sophia Nieder, Lorraine Nieder and Sheldon Dannenfelzer; nephews, Gerald (Jr.) Nieder, Jeff Nieder; and niece, Carrie Nieder.

Marvin is survived by his beloved companion "Bobo"; a sister-in-law, Ruby (Ralph) Dannenfelzer, Mandan, ND; aunt, Violet Olson, Hettinger, ND; nieces, Debbie Dannenfelzer, Royal Palm Beach, FL, DeeAnn (Nieder) Orr, Louisville, KY, Lori (Nieder) Robinson, Simpsonville, KY, Wendy Dannenfelzer, Mandan, ND, Marsha (Dave) Walsh, Grand Rapids, MI and Suzanne Nieder, Glenns Ferry, ID; nephews, Kurk Nieder, Billings, MT and Michael (Michelle) Dannenfelzer, Mandan, ND.  He is also survived by many great nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors that he adored and enjoyed spending time with.
