Martin B. Jacobsen, 96, Lemmon and former lifelong Shadehill farmer - rancher passed away at West River Regional Hospital, Hettinger, ND on Monday morning.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 31 at 1 PM at the Rosebud Lutheran Church, with Pastor Margie Hershey officiating. Interment will be in the Rosebud Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Rosebud Lutheran Church.

Visitations will be Thursday from 1 to 7 pm at Evanson Jensen Funeral Home, Lemmon and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Martin Berger Jacobsen was born on the family homestead in Seim Township, Perkins Co., March 24, 1911. His father, Martin Jacobsen settled there in 1909 and his mother Jenny (Benson) joined him in 1910. Martin grew up on the homestead and attended the Dahl School in the Seim School District through the eighth grade. He farmed with his parents and during the drought years of the 1930's went west to central Washington State to work at the farms in that area. When WWII broke out, he served proudly in the US Army.

Following his discharge from service, he returned to the family homestead and farmed and ranched with his brother, Agner. They used teams of horses, of course in those early years to bring in the hay crop and do the cultivating.

They later retired on the farm and always enjoyed reading, raising a garden, caring for their orchard and attending Rosebud Church. There Martin served on the church board and the cemetery board for many years. He also was on the township board.

He and Agner enjoyed the privacy of the prairie.

In 2001 they moved to an apartment in Lemmon and in Jan. of 2007 he entered Five Counties Nursing Home.

He is survived by his brother, Agner of Lemmon. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Eva Lee.
