Marlys Blomquist's Obituary
Funeral services for Marlys Blomquist, age 81, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2016 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD. Pastor Carin Bear will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery in Lemmon.
Marlys Marie Weinkauf was born on September 20, 1934 to Fred and Ella (Guthling) Weinkauf on their family farm in Claire City, SD. She was one of six children. Marlys always liked to joke that she was born in a chicken coop. She attended rural country school and attended and graduated from Sisseton High School.
During her younger years, Marlys enjoyed roller skating and going for walks with her dog. While attending High School, Marlys worked at the Grand Café in Sisseton, where she met James Blomquist. They began dating and were united in marriage on June 1, 1952.
Three children were born to this marriage, Calvin, David and Daniel. In 1963 the family moved to Lemmon, SD, when the telephone company Jim was working for transferred him there. In 1981 Marlys and Jim adopted their daughter, Tammy, and Marlys finally got the daughter she always wanted.
As a homemaker, Marlys enjoyed crocheting, loved horses and was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for many years. She was an officer in the 20th Century Woman's Club and also taught several years of Sunday School at the Calvary Lutheran Church. She spent many afternoons having coffee with neighborhood friends and will be remembered by many as a loving caring person.
Marlys passed away on Tuesday morning, September 6, 2016 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Blomquist, Lemmon, SD; two sons, Danny and Dave Blomquist, both of Lemmon, SD; one daughter, Tammy (Tom) Neys, Bonney Lake, WA; five grandchildren, Jessica (Justin) Bueligen, Justin Sykes and Travis Baker; and Atticus and Broderick Neys; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Karen (Herman) Wegleitner, Sisseton, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Calvin Blomquist; and four brothers, Edgar, Alloy, Donnie and Delbert.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
