Margie was born to Benton and Margaret Byers on February 28, 1930 at the Byers homestead about 4 miles northeast of White Butte, SD.  In 1935, the family moved to a farm near Reeder, ND.  They lived on various farms near Reeder and Bucyrus, ND over the next several years before settling on a farm a few miles southwest of Reeder in 1946.  Margie attended grade school at Bucyrus and Reeder and graduated from Reeder High School in 1948.  Three days later, on June 1, 1948, she married Robert Frandsen. Bob had given her an engagement ring for her 17th birthday.  Following a one week honeymoon in the Black Hills, they settled on a ranch in the Slim Buttes near Reva, SD.

Life on the ranch was very hard but she made the best of it.  She hated snakes and there were always plenty of those around.  She loved to garden and did a lot of canning.  They raised or grew most of what they ate, which was necessary as some winters they were snowed in for several months. Their son, Thomas, was born May 16, 1949.  They continued to live on the ranch until the fall of 1953 when they moved to Reeder, ND so that Tom wouldn't have to go to a country school.

Their first house in Reeder was an old converted gas station that didn't have running water or an indoor bathroom.  Their daughter, Patricia, was born February 10, 1954.  Shortly after that they moved to an apartment above the Farmer's Union Oil Company.  They lived there until Pat turned 6 and then they moved to a house across the street from the Lutheran Church.  It was at that time that Margie started working at the Farmer's Union grocery store.  In 1969, they had a house built on a lot three blocks east of main street.  Margie eventually became the manager of the grocery store and worked there until the store closed in 1986.

Not one to just sit around, she found jobs in Hettinger at Kennedy's and the hospital.  In 1991, Bob took a job as custodian at the Adams County Courthouse and shortly after that Margie decided to quit her job at the hospital so she could help Bob.  They loved working together and took great pride in keeping the courthouse sparkling clean.  After 25 years, they retired at the ages of 89 and 86.

Margie loved spending time with friends and family, gardening, dancing, cooking, doing crafts and playing cards.  She was active in the Reeder Congregational church and Ladies Aid.  She was always looking for opportunities to help others.

She is survived by her sister Karen Hofland/"Snookie", son Tom, daughter Pat (Mike) Carroll, grandsons Chris (Jennifer) Frandsen and Robert (Suzanne) Carroll, granddaughters Jennifer (Eddie) Kesner and Michelle Gayette (Robin Pendleton) and 10 great grandchildren - Caleb and Kaya Gayette, Andrew (Madison) Frandsen, Lauren (Jacob) Davenport, Kate Frandsen and Lily, Molly, Olivia, Abby and Chloe Kesner, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Bill and Daryol/"Tex", sister Marilyn/"Skeeter", sisters-in-law LaVaughn and Bev, brother-in-law Brad Hofland and daughter-in-law Fae.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to the Reeder Cemetery Association, POC: Heidi Mellmer, 801 14th St NW, Reeder, ND 58649.
