Marilyn K. Roth went to join her heavenly father and her old hubby on September 18, 2024. She was born to Carl and Elizabeth (Acker) Petersen on February 23, 1943, on the family farm near Eagle Butte, SD. She was the youngest of nine children. She was very proud of her Native American heritage and was gifted her Native American name this summer; "Loved By Her People Woman".

She first saw dad at the café where she was working in Mobridge, SD and without speaking to him told her coworker she was going to marry him. A few days later he called her at work to ask her out. She told him to show up when she got off work and she would check him out. They were married a few months later on December 16, 1961.

They were blessed with three children, Rolanda, Daniel and Samantha. They were also given the gift of raising their granddaughter, Heather.

They ranched at several different places in North and South Dakota before buying their own farm in Grant County, North Dakota in 1978.

Mom was dad's righthand man, helping out in the hay fields and lambing barn. She always had a great garden and loved her chickens, cats and dogs. Dad always said she was a good cook and a good mother. Both true! Family gatherings always included her homemade hot fudge and caramel rolls. She loved nature and all animals. One time showing her great grandkids her mamma snake Teague asked, "Grandma, are there any animals you don't love?"

She always said how blessed she was to have been able to live the lifestyle she wanted, how lucky she got with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids and how good people in the community were to her.

She was a feisty lady and people loved her for her sense of humor and kindness. She loved to visit and used to enjoy playing cards. She was pretty competitive even whacking her grandson when he beat her down with a card playing Demons!

She was the life of the party. Often found around the campfire at family reunions with her nieces and nephews telling stories and getting into trouble.

She moved off the farm after Roland passed away. She was nervous about living in town for the first time in her life but soon found that she had a community of great friends surrounding her.

Marilyn is survived by her children and grandchildren Rolanda (Todd) Texley, Daniel (Rebeka) Roth, Samantha Roth (Kevin Dynes), Heather (Adam) Schmidt, Dusty (Cristina) Texley, Carly (Jimmy) Swain, Hunter (Catherine) Roth, Hannah (Alex) Roth, Alex and Alivia Dynes and great grandkids Teague, Harlon and Wright Texley, Aden, Zoey and Cru Schmidt and Marley and James Swain.

She is also survived by her sister Tiny (Keith) Farlee, sister Pat Fish, sister-in-law Carol Marten and many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Roland, mother and father, brothers Delbert (Kelva), Harley (Jo and Charlene), Dennis (Helen) and Raymond (June), sisters Betty Horne and Anita "Sis" (Bill) Curley.
