Funeral services for Marianne Achtenberg, age 91, of New Leipzig, ND, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND.  Pastor John Amundson will officiate with burial to follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of New Leipzig, ND.

The funeral service will be livestreamed through Marianne's obituary on our website www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com .  The funeral will be available for viewing for 90 days following the funeral.

Marianne Ida Achtenberg (Loock) was born December 23rd, 1929 to August and Katherine (von der Heide) Loock. She was born in the parsonage at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Mom was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church.  She grew up on the Loock family farm several miles east of Trinity Lutheran. Her life on the farm consisted of milking cows, riding horse and shocking wheat.  She attended country school until the 8th grade.

Marianne married Ernie Achtenberg on October 28th 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church.  They made their home on a farm southeast of New Leipzig. They raised cattle,  small grains and BOYS. They did throw one girl into the mix. Mom and dad moved their family to New Leipzig in1971. Mom was employed at the cafe, school, grocery store and drove school bus. She assisted dad with janitorial duties at Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 21 years.

She enjoyed time with her children,  grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would attend sporting events, baptisms, confirmations and graduations.

Mom and dad would travel to Montana,  Washington  and Colorado to visit with relatives.  She was able to travel to Germany to meet family she had only seen in pictures. She loved flowers, and always made sure there were some in the yard.  In 2001 mom and dad were awarded the yard of the year and were Grand Marshall for the Octoberfest Parade in 1995. For many years mom was the go to person in New Leipzig if someone needed German translated to English.

Marianne and Ernie were married 66 years when dad passed away on February 12th,  2015. Mom was reunited with dad on May 4th, 2021.

Left behind to miss her everyday are her children Marvin (Dianne) Monticello  Minnesota,  Anita( Jim) Arnold Portal ND, Steve (Romae) Bismarck  ND, Tim (Joan) Fargo  ND, Jeff (Joy) Ravenna NE, Dave (Roxanne) Bismarck ND and Dwight (Janelle) Pueblo West Colorado. 17 grandchildren,  20 great-grandchildren, brother Henry (Mary Ann) Loock, sister Margaret von der Heide, sister-in-laws Donna Loock, Irma Achtenberg, Susan Achtenberg, brother-in-law Virgil Achtenberg,  many nieces and nephews and a very special person Carrie Roth. She was preceded in death by her parents,  brothers Rudy and Fred (Anna), great granddaughter Addison, her mother and father-in-law,  numerous  nieces and nephews,  brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and many friends.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a family service at 7:00 p.m. all on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND.
