The Memorial Service for Magnhild Rytter Parkos, age 95 of Lake Norden, SD formerly of Lemmon, will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Pastor Charlotte Kvale will officiate with inurnment in Greenhill Cemetery.

Magnhild P. Rytter Parkos was born December 4, 1915 and passed away March 13, 2011 at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden, SD.
Magnhild was born to homesteaders, Andrew and Sigrid Anderson, in a sod house beside Lodgepole Creek, Perkins County. She attended school at Pleasant Ridge School. Magnhild married U.C. "Ole" Rytter in 1935 in Lemmon, SD. In the late 30's they moved to Fort Peck, MT where Ole worked on Fort Peck Dam. From there, they moved to Summit City, CA, where Ole worked on Shasta Dam. In the early 40's, they moved to West Seattle, WA, where Ole worked in the ship yards. They purchased a farm south of the North Grand River in 1944, sold the farm in 1958, and moved to Wenatchee, WA in 1959. Magnhild and Ole moved to Colfax, WA in 1961, and opened a drive-in restaurant.

Magnhild was an active member of the Rosebud Lutheran Church, often playing piano for church services. She was also a member of the Ladies Aide. She enjoyed music and sang with her sister, Ida Foss, at funerals.

When Ole passed away in 1967, Magnhild moved to Edmonds to be near her son. While living in Edmonds, she worked as care-giver for elderly and shut-in folks.
Magnhild married James Parkos, of Everett, WA, in 1992. When Jim passed away in 1999, Magnhild moved to an assisted living facility in Edmonds, WA. She later moved to a nursing facility in Lake Norden, SD. Magnhild was a caring person, always putting others before herself.

Survivors include: one daughter Milly (Charles) Neve of Wallace, SD, and one son Andrew (Sharon) Rytter of Edmonds, WA; five grandchildren – Rocky (Linda) Jorgensen, Wade Jorgensen, Dawn Bohlman, Dr. Kristin Rytter, and Andrya Rytter; five step-grandchildren – Charles A. Neve, Bob (Joan) Neve, Donald (Marti) Neve, Michael (Linda) Neve, Valerie (Dan) Anderson; many great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Magnhild was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Sigrid Anderson; two husbands, Ole Rytter and James Parkos; one step-grandchild, Cindy Blasy; and her siblings Agnes (George) Smebakken, Ida (Hugh) Foss, Oscar (Marcella) Anderson, Arnold (Celia) Anderson, and Alfred (Leoda) Anderson.
