LUELLA MAE VETTER, 79, passed from this earth on July 30, 2005 at Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon. Luella had fallen and injured her back on June 30. While in the hospital, she became very ill and had a couple strokes.
She was quoted to say, "If I can dance every dance at our 60th Anniversary party, the good Lord can come and take me tomorrow." Forty seven days later, He did.
Luella was born on March 10, 1926 at Leola, SD to William and Pauline (Sperle) Smith. She attended grade school at Stony Butte, one year of high school in Spearfish, before graduating from Bison High School.
Luella married Frank Vetter on Jun 13, 1945 at Baker, MT. They lived in Tacoma, WA for a short time before returning home to the Vetter homestead. In 1956, they moved to their current home in Bison. They were blessed with three children.
Luella loved to fix hair, bowl, dance, play cards, and hear the jingle of the machines in Deadwood. Legally blind, she still loved to make dish rags and scratchers. Her family and friends were blessed with her famous noodles and watermelon, sour cream raisin pie, and date filled cookies. She always had a pot of coffee on and cookies in the freezer.
