Lucille "Lu" Heier was the 4 th born of 5 siblings to James and Grace (Halpaus) Fitzgerald in North Dakota on April 5, 1929.
When asked what family meant to her, Lu would always say "It means to love one another". She lived that motto everyday of her life from raising her four kids to being the best grandma and great-grandma.
After meeting Gerald Heier at a dance in Keldron, SD, they were later married on July 11, 1950. In 1962, they became the owners of Jerry's Our Own Hardware. With the kids growing up in the store, they learned about the nuts and bolts of a successful business and the hard work to make it that way. Lu did the bookkeeping from her office upstairs in the store, always making in the perfect place to be greeted by her grandchildren.
Lu showed her love for her family and friends by the t-shirt quilts that she sewed, pie baking and caramel roll tutorials and daily visits when possible. She was a hard worker but when the work was done, BINGO was always an enjoyment along with taking care of her flowers…especially geraniums. Through her love of the Catholic Church, Lu always gave rosaries, prayer books and cards in our birthday cards, the children and grandchildren will always have a piece of her with them and know how much she loved them.
On January 25, 2021, Lu left all of us to be with her Good Lord in peace.
She is survived by her son, Bob (Karen) Heier, New Castle, CO; daughters, Debbie (Jim) Heier-Banning, Hill City, SD, Jocie Corcoran, Sheridan, WY and Nicole (Dave) Huffman, Lemmon, SD; nine grandchildren, Scott Heier, Mary Jo (Garry Wayne) Johnson, Megan (Berkeley) Davis, Darrin (Cyndi) Corcoran, Tory (Kaitlyn) Corcoran, Kayla (Dillon) Wilbanks, Matthew, Justin and Wyatt Huffman; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Fitzgerald; and one sister, Marcene Behrmann.
Lu was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; and brothers Alan "Bud" and Ellsworth Fitzgerald.
The family would love to hear stories and memories of Lu, cards and stories can be sent to PO Box 598, Lemmon, SD, 57638 or left on Lu's guestbook on www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com .
