She attended high school in Bison, graduating in 1942. She worked as a secretary at the Rural Credit Office in Lemmon, then at the Honeywell Regulator Company in Minneapolis. She enjoyed the city life and dancing at the Friendship Club on Lake Street. After the war, Lucile moved back to the family farm for a few years.

Many happy family memories centered around times spent at Shadehill Lake. Lucile enjoyed fishing and camping, playing pinochle at the card parties in the church basement. She was an excellent cook, and spent most of her time taking care of family. After Harold's death, Lucile moved to Rapid City. There she continued to enjoy family and friends, and occasional trips, camping and fishing.
