New England
Loretta Jung, 78, of New England, ND passed away at the Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer, ND on Monday, October 5, 2020.
Graveside Catholic Christian Burial will be Monday, October 12, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. MT at the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New England, ND. Fr. Gary Benz will officiate.
Loretta Jung was born on April 15, 1942 on the family homestead south of New England ND in Strehlow Township to Adam and Pauline (Kirschmann) Jung.
Loretta attended St. Mary's Catholic School in New England and graduated in 1960. She spent much of her life on the family farm where she took summer walks listening to the "whispering pines" that surrounded the farm. She enjoyed taking care of the baby chicks, ducks, geese, and turkeys. This is where her love for birds began. Loretta had a large collection of bird figurines, plates, and ornaments.
Loretta will be remembered as an avid reader and for her love of music. She had many records and sheet music and could play piano by ear. She loved playing for family and friends. Loretta had an incredible memory and could recall dates without hesitation. On one occasion a Priest was visiting, and he was amazed at how well she could remember dates from history. She never missed a birthday or anniversary.
With Loretta's declining health she spent her final years at Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer ND. One of her favorite activities was watching the birds in the Home's large bird cage. She also made friends with the resident cat.
Loretta was a devote Catholic and had many friends at the Parish that she kept in touch with for many years. Loretta was a unique person in so many ways and will be missed by all who knew her. She considered Hill Top Home of Comfort her home and we want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the staff for their wonderful care and making her feel like family.
Loretta is survived by her sisters, Irene Ketterling, Norwalk, IA and Eleanora (Bill) Evenson, Hettinger, ND, her nieces and nephews, Brad Ketterling, Vic Ketterling, Sheri Sharp, Sandy Ketterling, Carrie Strand, Dawn Boxrud and Tonya Jensen and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Pauline Jung, her brother Herbert Jung, an infant brother, a brother-in-law, Phil Ketterling and a great nephew, Tanner Strand.
