Funeral services for Lester B. McCullough, 76, of Elgin, ND will be Friday, December 9, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Leipzig, ND. Rev. John Amundson will officiate and burial will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin and one hour prior to the services at the church in New Leipzig on Friday morning.


Lester Blain McCullough was born July 24, 1929 in a sod house on his fathers homestead in Hettinger County, North Dakota to Arthur and Alice (Hawn) McCullough. Lester attended school in Mott and at age 17 enlisted into the Army in 1946. He spent 15 months in Italy and then came back state side to the 82nd airborne in North Carolina. Upon returning home, he enlisted into the North Dakota National Guard. He married Velores Loraine Baesler on November 5, 1950 in New Leipzig. They moved to Chicago where Lester attended school. Shortly after arriving in Chicago, Lester was called back to the Army in 1951 due to the Korean War. Lester and Velores went on to Camp Rucker, Alabama where they lived until his discharge. They then moved to Grand Rapids, MN where Lester worked as a pipe-fitter and engineer until his retirement in 1989. They semi-retired to St George, Utah for 2 years, in 1991 returned to Elgin.


Lester died on the evening of Sunday, December 4, 2005 in rural Sioux County, ND.
He is survived by his daughter Beverly Morrell. Alma CO,2 sons, Richard McCullough and wife Colleena, Columbia Falls, MT, David McCullough and wife Connie, 2 grandchildren, Lucas Burdick and Erin McCullough, Hopkins, MN his brother Vernon McCullough, San Leandro, CA. Preceding Lester in death were his parents, his wife, siblings, Rhoda McMillan, Phern McMillan, Freda Graeber, Grace Hafer, Boyd and Delmar McCullough.
