Urn burial will take place at a later date at Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott. Rosary/Wake service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the church.

LEONARD PAUL PETERS was born on September 7, 1927 to Katherine (Burghart) and Fred Peters. He spent his childhood years on a farm north of Burt. Leonard attended Burt Elementary School.

He enlisted in the United States Army where he received his GED. He served for several tours of duty, most memorably in the Panama Canal Zone; eventually he earned the rank of sergeant. After his honorable discharge he enrolled in the Wahpeton School of Science. Leonard graduated on May 27, 1960 with his Associates degree in Auto Mechanics. He then worked as a mechanic in several implement businesses.

Throughout his life Leonard had a love of machines, especially tractors and pickups. But being the oldest of twelve, Leonard's life was defined by helping his parents support and raise his younger brothers and sisters. He was a kind and generous brother and uncle.

One striking memory we all have is his "Whoopy Rides". These special rides consisted of a tour of Mott in his latest pickup and then ended with a stop for ice cream.

He spent the last years of his life at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home where he endeared himself to many there. We will all miss his smile.

Leonard Peters passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND on December 20, 2010.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his brothers, Robert, of Idabelle, OK, Kenneth, of Mott, Fred (Carol), Dallas, TX, Ted (Peggy), Bismarck, ND and Tom, Bismarck, ND; his sisters, Claire(Gordon) Zimmel, Grand Rapids, MN, Cathryn Peters, Rockford IL, Rosali (Del) Rowe, Rockford, IL, Edith (Bob) Pederson, Coupeville, WA and Cheryl (Rick) McNeill, Mott, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Walter and one nephew, Gordon "Butch" Zimmel, Jr.
