Funeral services for LeAnn Hughes, age 69, of McIntosh, SD, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in McIntosh, SD. Pastor Tottie Lenerville will officiate with burial to follow in the McIntosh City Cemetery.

LeAnn Carole Hughes was born on May 24, 1947 to Albert and June (Johnson) Swanston in Elgin, ND. She attended grade school at White Shirt Country School. In 1956 her family moved to McIntosh, SD, where she continued her education.

On September 15, 1963, she was united in marriage to Dannie Ralph Hughes. To this union two loving children were born: Doug and Karla, both born in Lemmon, SD.

LeAnn began working at Mattern Drug Store & Restaurant and later Mattern Hardware store all in McIntosh. She then began a long career for the South Dakota Department of Social Services. LeAnn retired after 39 years of faithful service. Following her retirement she enjoyed camping at the river, quilting, crafting, and going to rummage sales. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

LeAnn volunteered at the Food Pantry and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in McIntosh, SD. She passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her home in McIntosh, SD.

She is survived by her daughter Karla (Terry) Thompson, Woodbridge, VA; son, Doug Hughes and special friend, Terrie Persinger, Cocoa, FL; loving granddaughter, Tara Thompson; brothers, Ben, Bruce (Mary) and Paul (Gail) Swanston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

LeAnn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dannie; one sister, Karen Hanson; one brother, Larry Swanston; and brother-in-law, Rusty Hanson.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday morning.
