Lawrence LaVerne Strand was born to Sever and Julia Strand January 5, 1924, on the family homestead 11 miles South of Regent. Lawrence was the youngest of 6 children. He attended Christianson Country School in Maine Township and graduated from Regent High School in 1942.
He met the love of his life, Rose Srb, at a dance. They were married February 3, 1944, and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary together. Four children were born of this union. The Strands farmed and ranched on the homestead and in 1963 purchased the Hettinger Sales Barn, and operated it until 1969.
Lawrence and Rose shared many interests including fishing, traveling, bowling, card playing and socializing with their many friends. At the age of 55, they started wintering in Arizona and Nevada and made more friends.
Music was always a part of Lawrence's life, beginning with a band consisting of Lawrence and his 3 brothers, Ted, Bert, and Sam. He became well known as a saxophone player in the area playing with many local musicians every week-end for many years. Music brought countless hours of enjoyment to him and memories to last a lifetime.
Lawrence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and a good friend and neighbor to many. He will be greatly missed. He has lived at the Good Samaritan Care Center for the past four years.
