Funeral services for Lavina Underland, age 99, of Hettinger, ND, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Hettinger Lutheran Church in Hettinger, ND. Rev Kathleen Dettmann will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.

Lavina Alma Berger was born on May 19, 1918 in Britton, SD, to Ben and Agnes (Walters) Berger. She attended school in Britton and graduate from Britton High School in 1936.

Due to extreme drought conditions, Norman Underland and his parents had moved their sheep to a rented pasture near Britton. Lavina met Norman at a dance in Havana, ND and on July 29, 1939, they were united in marriage in Britton, SD.

They lived on the Underland ranch near Lodgepole, SD, where Lavina was Norman's right-hand man. In 1980 they retired into Hettinger, ND and enjoyed traveling. Norman passed away in 1980 and Lavina continued to live in Hettinger, ND, until passing away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the Western Horizons Care Center.

Lavina was a patient and kind lady, who made sure to always greet people. She was the consummate "lady" who made sure she was always very presentable and was a very caring and loving hostess to her guests.

She is survived by many extended family members.

Lavina was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; three brothers and one sister.
