Albert LaVerne Moser was born May 18, 1928, in Lemmon, SD, to Fred and Lula (Rhoads) Moser. He attended schools in Lemmon and Hecla, SD.
At age 14, he started working to help his mother provide for and raise his seven siblings. He was no stranger to hard work and dedication to whatever life asked of him. Living through the depression as a child, LaVerne worked whenever and wherever he could to help his family.
He married the love of his life, Elaine Svihovec, on August 21, 1950. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. LaVerne returned home and drove truck and worked for area farmers and ranchers before purchasing a farm north of Morristown in 1958 where they would live until moving to Lemmon, South Dakota, in the fall of 2019. Together they farmed and ranched and raised their four sons and two daughters.
Amid the family, farming and ranching, there was time to volunteer. For eighteen years, he focused on securing better education for students as a member of the local school board, not wanting just his children, but all neighborhood youth to have a quality education. He made sure all six of his kids received some sort of post high school education. He served on the Lemmon Equity Co-op board for twelve years, was a charter member of the local credit union board and the local township board where he served as a chairman. In his retirement years he was happy to operate the township road grader. LaVerne was a member of the American Legion, North Dakota Stockmen's Association and a Charter Member of the American Simmental Association. He was an early innovator using artificial insemination and bred his first Simmentals in 1969.
LaVerne is survived by his wife Elaine of nearly seventy-one years; Wendy and (Trent) Lebahn, Salina, KS; Wade and (Lynn) Moser, Bismarck, ND; Harry and (Lisa) Moser, Wheaton, KS; Perry and (Diana) Moser, Baldwin, ND; Jay and (Holly) Moser, Morristown, SD; Hope and (Mark) Stoller, Madison, SD; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren with two more arriving before the end of the year; sister-in-law Joan Klucker, Bismarck, ND; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Pauline Svihovec, Bismarck, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Robert, Howard and Ralph Moser; sisters Viola Kasparek, Mavis Weisinger, Mary Ellen Moser and Dorothy Lorius.
A memorial fund has been established and will be administered by the family.
