Lorraine Marie Schneider "Laurie" was born on April 20, 1946 in Elgin, ND to Martin and Lenora (Williamson) Ellison.  She was the youngest of 5 girls.  Laurie was raised in Lemmon, SD. At about the age of 10, the family moved to Rapid City.  After high school, Laurie went to Beauty school in Rapid, SD.   She married Arnie Johnson in September 1965.  This union produced a son Richard Dwayne Johnson in August 1966.  After their divorce, Laurie married Dennis Buer in 1970 and they lived in Moab, Utah.  In October 1972 tragedy struck and she had to bury her oldest son Ricky.  Ten days later, Shawn Palmer Buer was born.  Laurie and Dennis then packed up their family and moved to the Buer family ranch near Meadow, SD. Denise Lorraine Buer was born about 18 months after Shawn.   Laurie worked on the farm and they raised dogs and other animals.  She was right out there in the field, being a mom and helping with anything she could.  Tragedy occurred again in 1983 via a car accident with her and Shawn losing Dennis and Denise.  Laurie never recovered from this.  She raised Shawn the best she could but never really recovered from the loss and her numerous injuries from the accident.  She and Shawn moved to Mandan, ND where Laurie married Monte Syverud in 1986.  They had a foster child with special needs and she also helped raise Monte's kids.  They worked a dude ranch giving sleigh rides, pony rides and such.  She divorced Monte in 1989, and moved back to Lemmon where she married Robert Schneider.   They moved to Rapid City.  She was always there to help anyone in need, nobody went without anything.   She was overjoyed when Shawn married Susan and they started their family. Her love for her grandchildren was amazing. After her divorce from Robert in 1997, Laurie moved back to an apartment in Lemmon. After a few more moves, she met her lifetime partner Jim Lorenz. They shared so much love and Jim was her caregiver, friend and soulmate until her death.

Laurie was a very talented crafty woman, she loved sewing, she made Shawn and Denise's clothing when they were little, also clothes for her granddaughter Tara.  She could sew anything from blue jeans to doll clothing.  She did leather crafting, jewelry; she loved making earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.  She made dreamcatchers, belts, bridles, and halters, and she also did painting…there wasn't anything crafty she could not do.  Her passion was playing bingo and cards. She wouldn't miss that for anything and it was her outing.  Some of Laurie's favorite things were hummingbirds and windchimes.  She was disabled after numerous surgeries and breathing problems but she always made it to bingo and cards.  She was blessed with her grandkids and great- grandkids, the loves of her life.   She didn't care if she had a dollar, she would always make sure everyone was taken care of.    Her love was unconditional and she showed it in many ways.

Laurie had a love for life.  She lived her life to the fullest, always had a laugh, a smile, and conversation for anyone and everyone.  Laurie will be missed greatly by all who knew her; her memory will live on in our hearts forever.

Laurie passed away early Sunday morning, March 1, 2020 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Surviving family members include her son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Susan Buer, Lemmon, SD; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Buer, Tara (Reed) Koenig, and Braydon Buer; 4 great grandchildren, Paislee, Palmer, Paxton, and Asher; 1 sister, Alice (Jim) Pahkamaa, Rapid City, SD; her life partner, Jim Lorenz, Lemmon, SD; and siblings, Richard Lorenz, Tony Lorenz, Roger Lorenz, Helen Schaible, Sharon Valance, Nancy Lipkins, Judy Mason, and Sandy Radke; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
