Service of Remembrance for Lance Rodman, 54, of Hettinger, ND will be Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND. Rev. Kathleen Dettmann will officiate and burial will follow at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home before the service.

LANCE BURDETTE RODMAN, was born April 9, 1954, to L.B. "Rod" and Gloria Rodman of Hettinger. Lance, who was the first son and middle child born to the Rodmans, attended elementary, junior high and high school in Hettinger, graduating from Hettinger High School in 1972. While in high school, he was active in the school's first student aide program. He was also instrumental in building sets and running lights for high school musicals and dramatic productions.


After high school, he attended Valley City State College, Valley City, ND, graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1976. His work for a mortuary in Valley City sparked his interest in mortuary science, a field of study he continued at the University of Minnesota.


Upon completion of his Bachelor of Science degree there in March of 1979, he worked as a mortician in the Minneapolis area, later moving to Los Angeles, CA, to continue similar work.


As his health deteriorated, he returned to Hettinger, remaining there until his death.


Lance was a man of many interests, one of which was hunting. He was an excellent cook, specializing in Southern dishes, an avid record (vinyl) and coin collector, and a collector of Harley Davidson memorabilia. He also liked to travel.


Lance died at his home in Hettinger on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, after a lingering illness. He was 54.


Lance was preceded in death by his infant sister Rebecca in 1950, by his brother Neal in 1981, his father in 1983 and his mother in 2001.
