Kurt Arnold Blickensderfer, 94, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 with his wife by his side at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mott, N.D.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at the New Leipzig Baptist Church. There will be a time for family and friends to gather, visit and share memories on Friday night, February 18 at the Mott Evangelical Community Church from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Kurt was born January 22, 1928 to Paul and Frieda (Betz) Blickensderfer on the family farm north of Willa in Hettinger County.  He attended Highland Township School #4 through the eighth grade, then attended Mott Lincoln High School for nearly a year until an illness resulted in his leaving school.  He worked on the farm until 1950 when he took a course in auto mechanics at ND State School of Science in Wahpeton.

Kurt was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952.  After basic training in San Diego Kurt went to aircraft mechanic school in Jacksonville, Fla. and Memphis, Tenn.  He served in a fighter squadron in El Toro, Calif. and on an aircraft carrier in Hawaii.  He received an honorable discharge January 1954.

Kurt married Darlene J. Kluck on November 9, 1955.  They had two sons and two daughters and farmed south of Mott.  In 1963 Kurt built a house in Mott, doing much of the work himself.  For several years he drove a school bus for the Mott school district.  Kurt's family was very important to him.  When his children were young he tried to take the family on a vacation every year. In 2003 Kurt retired from farming, but he continued to help a neighbor with haying for several years.

Kurt trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and His faith was a priority in his life.  He was an active member of the New Leipzig Baptist Church.  For many years he was a member of Gideons International.  He enjoyed distributing Bibles in schools around southwestern North Dakota.

Kurt was a member of the American Legion Post 71, holding several offices.  He was also active in the Mott Lions Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Darlene, sister Ruth McNally, sister-in-law Edna Blickensderfer, his sons Owen (Ann) and Dwight (Debbie) Blickensderfer, daughters Vickie (Kent) Gussiaas and Janel (John) Johannes, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul and sister Dora McCoy.
