Memorial services for Kathryn "Kathy" Hess, age 53, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon, SD.  Fr. Tony Grossenburg will officiate with inurnment to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon, SD.

Kathryn "Kathy" Kelley was born on March 20, 1964 to Robert and Jean (Spencer) Kelley in Lemmon, SD.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lemmon.  Kathy attended school in Lemmon and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1982.  Following her schooling, she attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, for two years.

She returned to Lemmon and began working at KBJM Radio in 1985 and continued work there until her death.  On June 25, 1988, she was united in marriage to Harlan Hess at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lemmon.  Two children were born to this union, Cassandra and Collin.

Kathy was active in the Lemmon Jaycees, the Lemmon Ambulance, PEO, CAVA Board of Directors, Boss Cowman Committee and City of Lemmon Park Board.  She enjoyed reading, coloring, knitting, camping and spending time with family and friends and her dog and companion, Gizmo.  She seldom missed a social opportunity and her infectious smile and laugh will not be forgotten.  Kathy was always willing to help with community projects, the fire department and anything else she was asked to support; she always gave 100% of her time and efforts.

She adored her children and family, and always put them first and supported their dreams.

Kathy passed away suddenly on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Harlan Hess, Lemmon, SD; son, Collin Hess, Lemmon, SD; daughter, Cassie Hess (Kolbey Arsaga) Rapid City, SD; mother, Jean Kelley, Rapid City, SD; two sisters, Kim Kelley (Michael Regan) Black Hawk, SD and Kiernan (Rick) Zimbelman, Black Hawk, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Kelley; and several in-laws.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. noon to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 followed by a gathering of Family and Friends Service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
