Service of Remembrance for Kathryn R. "Kathy" Beckman, 60, of Prairie City, SD will be Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beckman Memorial Weslyan Church in Prairie City, SD. Rev. Brad Burkhalter will officiate and burial will follow at the Prairie City Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Church on Thursday afternoon.

Kathy passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, with her family at her side on Sunday, October 31, 2010.

Kathryn Ruth Shuman was born January 16, 1950 in Laverne, Oklahoma at her family's home. Her parents were Frank and Hazel Marie (Close) Shuman. Kathy as she was called was the youngest of six children. She had four sisters and one brother.


Kathy graduated from Laverne High School in 1968. After graduation she went to Northwestern College in Alva, Oklahoma. She then started making plans for a wedding. Daniel S. Beckman, Sr. and Kathryn Shuman were united in marriage on May 10, 1969. She married the love of her life.

Daniel and Kathryn make their home on Daniel's parent's farm near Prairie City, SD. This is where they raised their three children, Crystal, Dan Jr. and Cherina. Kathryn loved her precious Lord and Savior, her husband Daniel, her children, grandchildren and her family and friends.


After Daniel and Kathryn's children started school she worked alongside of Daniel to keep the farm and ranch going. They raised angus cattle and also raised pigs for several years, which Kathy took care of.


Kathryn has nine grandchildren, Laramie Danielle and Shace Roland Batey, Joshua Daniel, Dylan Savelsberg, Jaren William and Jaylie Belle Beckman, Hope Kathryn and Will Charles Crabtree and Derric Sterling Brisendine. They are all so very special to her and she loves them dearly.


Kathy was diagnosed with MS in March of 2008. She kept going and never gave up. She asked God for help and strength for every day. She was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer in May of 2010. Kathy passed away at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND with her family at her side on Sunday, October 31, 2010.


Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Daniel Beckman, of Prairie City, daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Shane Batey, son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jenny Beckman and daughter, Cherina Beckman, and son-in-law Kevin Crabtree; sister-in-law, Wanda Shuman; four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Willard Stone, Anna Marie and Reese Anderson, Elva Belle and Rodney Carr and Eunice and Richard Peck and several nieces and nephews.


Preceding Kathy in death were her mother and father Frank and Marie Shuman; four sisters, Marjorie Ann Shuman, Stella Louise Brisendine, Arlena Marie Davenport and Darlena May Valentine; her brother, Jim Edward Shuman, nephew, J.L. Shuman; three brothers-in-law, Luther Valentine, Arvid Brisendine and Dusty Davenport; her grandparents, Arizona and Nevins Close and Florence and Harry Shuman.
