Kathleen J. (Mollman) Hoffman, 79, of Watauga, South Dakota passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at West River Health Services Hospital in Hettinger, North Dakota.

Kathleen Hoffman was born January 31, 1945 to Dorus and Margaret (Hilsendager) Mollman. She was the eighth of thirteen children: Wally, Joyce, Betty, Jim, Dave, Bill, Eleanor, Joe, Bob, Greg, Frank, and Ray.

Kathleen grew up on the family ranch west of Watauga, South Dakota. She attended grade school at Matkin School, located two miles west of her parental home, and attended high school in New England, North Dakota and in Rapid City, South Dakota.

In 1963, Kathleen married Rod Hoffman of Lemmon, South Dakota in a ceremony in Deadwood, South Dakota. Together Kathleen and Rod raised five children: Sally (Mike), Jack (Michelle), Jill (Tom), April (Ken), and Cybil (Mike).

In addition to five children, Kathleen was blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Kimberly, Scout, Tyler, Amber, Steven, Bryant, Ashley, Morgan, Allison, Justin, Michael, Gregory, and Darrin.

Great grandchildren include: Tayler, Maverick, Hendrix, Remi, Oakley, Cambree, Clinton, Fynn, Kaden, Christoph, Berry, Abigail, Ella Mae, Carter, Owen, Emery, Wyatt, Nora, Ashton, Carley, Reed, Hudson, and Rhett.

In 1978, when Ruth and Russell Mollman retired from farming, Rod and Kathleen purchased their farm south of Morristown, South Dakota. Rod farmed and worked for the State of South Dakota as a food and dairy inspector. Kathleen worked alongside him raising five children while attending college, earning her bachelor's degree in Library Sciences.

Kathleen worked in education for the McIntosh, South Dakota Public School System from 1986-2014, starting her career as a tutor and ending it 28 years later as the school librarian. She loved her students, and they brought great joy to her life.

Kathleen enjoyed traveling with Rod and attending family events, especially those of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was always on the hunt for a good rummage sale and had a soft spot for anyone selling raffle tickets. However, a true passion of hers was carpentry. No project was too big or too small for her to tackle. The purchase of remodeling materials or a new tool brought a childlike smile to her face.

Kathleen spent many hours researching local history and finding local items related to the Watauga-Morristown, South Dakota area. She truly loved the Watauga area and was proud to call it home. She loved all her relatives, friends, and neighbors that lived there very dearly.

Kathleen was proceeded in death by her parents, Dorus and Margaret Mollman; and by her three brothers, Wally, Dave, and Bob.
