Katherine L. Schulz, formerly of Mott, ND; passed away on Wednesday morning, February 7, 2018 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND at the age of 98 years.

The Rosary Service will be held at 10:30am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am, both at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Mott. Fr. Stephen Folorunso will officiate with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Mott, ND.

Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz and Dave and Peggy Crane.
Serving as casketbearers are her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Katherine L. Welsch was born on November 8, 1919 at Lefor, ND to Karl and Katie (Jordan) Welsch. She grew up on a farm southeast of Lefor and attended a local country school and St. Elizabeth High School in Lefor. She moved to St. Louis, MO in 1936 where she worked in American Fixture Manufacturing making manikins, and at Mellonkraut working with chemicals.
While living in St. Louis, Katherine began a friendship with Pete Schulz and they were united in marriage on June 7, 1943 in St. Louis. A daughter Garnetta was born to this union. In 1948, they moved to a farm 7 miles south of Burt, ND on the Rex Ranch where they farmed and ranched together. A son Peter N. Schulz was born while living on the farm.

Katherine worked very hard on the farm alongside her husband. She was acquainted with running most machinery plus doing all her own work as being a housewife and mother. She loved the farm life and probably would have returned to the farm in a heartbeat if the chance was available.

Katherine kept herself busy in Mott as well doing a variety of things, some of which was sewing and altering for the public. (She quit altering when she was 80 years old). She cooked at the Curve for a time, cared for the children of many families in the area, spent many hours volunteering many places and enjoyed quilting. She was an avid walker and was very conscious about eating healthy.

Her husband Peter passed away in 1969 and Katherine continued to live on the place until moving into Mott in 1970. She moved to Minot in 2009 to be closer to family.

Surviving family members include her son, Peter N. Schulz, Crookston, MN; daughter, Garnetta Wanner, Minot, ND; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 5 brothers, and 4 sisters and 2 great grandchildren.
