KATHERINE MARIE KILZER was born on February 4, 1925 at the family farm south of Mott, located in Hettinger County, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Schaff) Kom. She graduated from Mott High School and received her teaching certificate and later taught country school.

Katherine married Edmund Kilzer on October 22, 1945 at the rural Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They began their life together on his family farm until Edmund built their home on land near their childhood homes. There they farmed and raised 11 children. Katherine was a loving mother, and enjoyed caring for her children and watching her grandchildren grow and followed them to many school programs and sports events. She mostly enjoyed working outdoors and kept busy in her many flower and vegetable gardens and tending to her farm chores. Every spring there was always a new batch of chickens to pick up or a setting hen that would be found in a little house. She was well known in the neighborhood as the "Egg Lady". She would donate to Catholic schools and the food pantry where she volunteered for 14 years. It was not unusual to see her feeding pet lambs or nurturing ducks, geese, or turkeys under a heat lamp in the shop. Afternoons you would find her cooking and baking, watching the news and reading the many newspapers and books she subscribed to. After Edmund entered the care center in Bismarck, Katherine continued to live on the family farm.

In the fall of 2003, with another cold North Dakota winter approaching, she entered Valley View Heights. During her stay there, she still enjoyed keeping up with all the latest news and events of the day with CNN. She saved a wealth of information while on the farm and enjoyed making scrapbooks of all her family history and events of the time. Later, she entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center and Mott Good Samaritan Nursing Center where she received excellent care and the love of the entire staff at all of these facilities. A special thanks to Dr. Willoughby and Dr. Tanous and all the care givers for taking wonderful care of our mother.
Katherine was very loyal to her community and church where she was a member of the St. Vincent's Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and also served on the Good Samaritan Society Board with her husband for 6 years.

Katherine is survived by her sons, Frank (Libby) Kilzer; Darrell (Renee) Kilzer; daughters, Laeticia (Leo) Voigt, Marie (Curt) Zimmerman, Sylvia (Les) Gion, Marlene Kilzer, Theresa (Blasé) Deichert, Yvonne (Kelly) Roth, Jackie (Wayne) Bohnet, Connie (Arvin) Herner; 36 grandchildren; 42 great- grandchildren; sisters, Leora Hewson, Fargo; Clara Mees, Bismarck; brothers, Lawrence Kom, Texas; and Leo Kom, Belcourt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Anna ; her husband, Edmund; an infant daughter, Claudia; and son, Charles.
