Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce Volk, age 80, of Hettinger, ND, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2021 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND.  Fr. Raphael Obotama and Deacon Mike Mellmer will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.

A time of fellowship and remembrance will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the Volk Farm east of Hettinger, ND, 205 6th St. NE.

Joyce Carolyn (Anderson) Volk was born on January 24 ^th 1941 in Modesto California to Virgil and Bertha (Buer) Anderson. She was raised in Watauga South Dakota and graduated from Lemmon High School. She married Jacob Volk on December 27 ^th , 1961, whom she met at a dance in Haynes. They had four children Wayne, Darcy, Cary and Cammy.

She worked for many years as a CNA at the Lemmon Hospital, West River Hospital and the Hettinger nursing home. She also spent time driving the school bus, mail routes and farming with her husband. She had a great love of animals that was equal to her love of Elvis Presley. Joyce was also an avid bowler and bowled with many friends on leagues over the years.

In September of 2020, Joyce was diagnosed with COVID-19. She spent several weeks in the hospital and nursing home. By the grace of God, she was able to overcome the virus and was able to go home, healthier than ever.

On Monday February 22, 2021, Joyce passed away at the West River Hospital.

Joyce is survived by her loving children: son, Wayne, Hettinger, ND; daughter Darcy (Larry) Torpen, Bowman, ND; son, Cary (Vicki) Volk, Elko, NV; daughter, Cammy (Jeff) Samson, Wasilla, AK: 11 grandchildren; Ryan (Jessica) Carroll, Clarksville, TN; Amanda Carroll, West Fargo, ND; Tashel (Brian) Brunmeier, Colestrip, MT; Brook (Jeremy) Yates, Killdeer, ND; Megan (Lance) Johnson, Bowman, ND; Cody (Janie) Bright, Winnemucca, NV; Tyler Volk, Elko, NV; Kinzi Volk, Boise, ID; Samantha (Jerry) Samson, Logan Samson, Eden Samson, Wasilla AK; 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Joyce is preceded in death by her loving husband Jacob, her parents, and her brother Larry.
