Service of Remembrance for John Anton Roster, 84, of Mott will be Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mott. Rev. John Amundson will officiate and burial with Full Military Honors will follow at the Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 4, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning. A family service will be Monday evening at the funeral home at 7:00 p.m.


JOHN ANTON ROSTER was born on March 31, 1921 in Acme Township in Adams County, North Dakota to Ervin and Catherine (Hee) Roster. He grew up on the family farm and was educated at the Prairie Home Country School. In his early years he worked for the Sax Motor, Mott Chevrolet Company and Bishop Machine Shop. In August of 1942, John entered the armed services and served his country for four years, being discharged in January of 1946. Upon his return, he was employed by his brother, Con in Con's Service Shop, where he worked until his retirement. John also was a substitute mail carrier for 40 years.


He was an avid fisherman in his younger years and especially enjoyed animals, having given a home to many stray and homeless cats, fed and built houses for the squirrels in his yard as well as for the birds and he fed them though out the years. John was united in marriage to Viola Sonnenberg on June 5, 1949 at Mott, ND where they continued to reside. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. His wife Viola passed from this life on December 23, 2002. John entered the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in January of 2004 where he passed away on June 29, 2005.

He is survived by many special nieces and nephews. Preceding John in death were his parents, his wife, four sisters and three brothers.
