The Visitation for John Maier, age 88 of New Leipzig, will be held from 1:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.

The Graveside Service will be held at 1:00pm CT Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery south of Mandan, ND with full military honors afforded by the Mandan VFW.

Serving as casketbearers are Cordell and Clint Kautz, Todd and Jonathan Williamson.

John Maier was born on August 8, 1930 on the family farm northeast of Mott, ND to Philip and Lydia (Klein) Maier.  He grew up there and attended country school.  He worked for Pahl farms, Tietz Hardware, and the City of New Leipzig.  John was married to Rose Williamson for some years.

John passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin.

He loved tinkering in his garage on whatever he could find.

He was a member of the Baesler-Achtenberg American Legion Post #211 of New Leipzig.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sister, Alvina Kautz of New Leipzig, ND; step-son, Todd Williamson and his wife Jacki, and four step grandchildren, Jonathan, Shantel, Kellie, and Holly; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five sisters, Hilda Golke, Lydia Luithle, Martha Wolf, Alma Bierwagen, Leona Baesler; two brothers, Richard and Alvin Maier.
