John Hummel Jr., age 88 of Mott and Dickinson, ND, passed away February 17, 2010 at the Triumph Medical Center in Mandan, ND.

John Hummel Jr. was born August 3, 1921 to John and Caroline (Kirschman) Hummel in Mott, ND. John served in WWII aboard the USS Clemson in the South Pacific. On June 20th, 1945, he married Claudia F. Horner. John and Claudia began farming in Mott in 1945 until they retired in 1975.

John is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Cathy Hummel, Fargo, ND, and two grandsons, Kristopher Hummel of Minnetonka, MN, and Joshua Hummel of Burbank, CA.

Surviving sisters and brother are Hilda Gruebele, Bismarck, ND, Art (Marilyn) Hummel, Bismarck, ND, Eleanor Johnson, Dickinson, ND, Meridean Sprecher, Mott, ND, and 21 nephews and nieces.

Surviving sisters-in-law are Edith (Willie) Forsch, Bismarck, ND, Carol (Edwin) Hummel, Williamsburg, VA, and Corrine (Alvin) Hummel, Bismarck, ND.

He was preceded in death by his wife Claudia, brothers, Willie Forsch, Jakie and his wife Ester Hummel, brothers, Alvin and Edwin Hummel, and brothers-in-law, Albert Gruebele, and Bob Johnson, and one nephew, Jerry Netzer.

Honoring the wishes of the deceased, there is no memorial service after cremation.
