It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Oliver Gupman, beloved son,
brother, uncle and cousin, at the age of 67 at his farm home in Adams County North Dakota on March
4, 2020.
A graveside service will be held on June 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. MT at the Zoar United Methodist Cemetery southwest of New Leipzig, ND.  A time of devotion will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Spencer Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lemmon, SD, with a time of sharing memories and refreshments to begin at approximately 2:00 p.m.  The devotion service will be livestreamed on our website at www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com . and a link will be made available for viewing the morning of the service.

John was born on September 2, 1952 to Luella (Magstadt) and Philip Gupman in Elgin, North Dakota.
He attended Cedar Butte School for grades 1-8 and graduated from Lemmon High School in 1970.
After briefly attending Jamestown College, he returned home to help on the family farm.
John grew up attending the Zoar United Methodist Church and was active in the youth program. He
was confirmed and became a member of the congregation until it closed.

He had several passions around which most of his life centered. The first was raising sheep. He often
traveled to sheep shows to show his sheep and later to judge sheep and wool. His second passion was
4-H. During his years as a member, he excelled in showmanship (especially with sheep). He then
became a leader and served for 48 years during which he influenced and taught many of the
community's youth, whom he referred to as "his kid's".

In later years he worked at Lemmon Livestock Inc., planted trees in Adams County for the Soil
Conservation Department, worked in the garden center of Northwest Farm and Home Supply and
helped in promoting Art in the Barn.

He also developed a passion for photographing the flowers he grew and the beauty he saw in nature.
These he shared freely in birthday and special occasion greetings with family and friends on Facebook.
He also loved sharing the produce from his garden with close neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Edith (Holbrook) and Oliver Gupman, Rose (Wiege)
and John Magstadt, and his father, Philip Gupman.

He is survived by his mother, Luella (Magstadt) Gupman, siblings and their spouses Deborah (Norman)
Griffiths, Mark (Connie) Gupman, Ruth (Eugene) Stanley, foster sisters Susan (Lyle) Haberstroh and
Lois Whittet, foster brother Laban Silk, 3 nephews, 8 nieces and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
