John "Jack" Deland, age 74 of Lemmon, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Monument Health in Rapid City.

Funeral services for Jack will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2022 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.

John  Herbert "Jack"   DeLand was born in Port Huron City, MI, on December 9, 1947, to Kenneth and France (Peltier) DeLand.  He attended high school at Port Huron City High School and later moved to Florida.

He met Martha Mason there and they were united in marriage on November 22, 1974.  To this union one son, John Paul, was born.

In his earlier years Jack worked as an auto and diesel mechanic.  After moving to Lemmon, SD, Jack enjoyed restoring old tractors which became his full time hobby.  He loved taking those tractors to as many parades and tractor pulls that he could make it to.

Jack loved Lemmon and the many friends he made there became his second family.

Jack was a member of the Brattvet-Green American Legion Post #66.  He was willing to help anyone, anyway he could and never met a stranger.  He loved making new friends and enjoyed a conversation with everybody he met.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; son, John Paul (Rena) DeLand; sister, Lynn Marie DeLand; and cousins, Steve and Tracy DeLand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Frances DeLand.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
