John Bay, age 97 of Mott, formerly of Carson, died Monday, May 17, 2010, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, June 27, 2010 at the Carson Community Center in Carson, ND.


John L. Bay was born April 25, 1913, at Carson, ND to Reinhart and Amelia (Steinley) Bay. John married Mildred Fliehman in Carson on July 6, 1945. He grew up on his parents' homestead north of Carson and later took over the farm, where he farmed and ranched until his retirement. He then made his home in Carson until three years ago when his health failed. He then moved to Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mott.


Johnny Bay was known as "Papa John" to the grandchildren, and it became his name to all the family and many who knew him. Just like others that knew Johnny Bay, the grandchildren have stories to tell about Papa John and his escapades with them.


He is survived by four children, Joyce Werre, Reno, NV, Janice McCarthy (Dan), Fargo, Paulette Schaaf (Orvil), Eldorado Springs, Mo, and Daryl Fliehman, Hebron; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one niece and nephew.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Richard and Sam Bay; and sister, Pauline Anderson.
