Obituary

Funeral services for James "Jim" Humphrey, age 97, of Minot, ND, formerly of Haynes, ND and Lemmon, SD will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Prince of Peace Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Pastor Dan Lindemann will officiate with burial in Greenhill Cemetery.

James L. Humphrey was born on May 10, 1912 to Alfred "Roy" and Kari (Thanum) Humphrey in a sod house five miles south of Haynes, ND.

Jim's mother died in 1917, and this left the five year old boy and his father alone to continue their life on the ranch. Jim grew up and attended school at the Green Cabin School in the Castle Butte Township. After school he continued ranching, a career that would span his entire life. Jim was honored to be elected the Lemmon Boss Cowman Honoree in 1992.

He was united in marriage to Olga (Reichel) Jorgenson and inherited four step-children. Olga passed away in 1995 and Jim continued to live on his own, until entering the nursing home in Minot, ND in 2007.

Jim passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Trinity Nursing Home in Minot, ND.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Shirley Zent, Minot, ND; two sons, Gene Jorgenson, Billings, MT and Calvin Jorgenson, Glendive, MT; 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Olga on September 18, 1995, and one daughter, Viola Sutton.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon.
