Obituary

Memorial Service for Jerry Hehn, age 73 of Hettinger, ND will be Monday, September 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. MT at the Centennial Chapel of Evanson Jensen Funeral Homes in Hettinger, ND.  Rev. Allen Wickstrom will officiate and Full Military Honors follow the service.

Jerry, 73, of Hettinger ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at West River Regional Medical Center with family at his side.

Jerry was born in Bismarck, ND on June 26, 1950 to Milbert "Shorty" Hehn and Violet Lucille (Ryckman) Hehn.  He attended Hettinger Public School and earned his GED while in Alaska.  He was drafted into the United Stated Armed Forces in 1969 and was stationed at Anchorage, AK.  He was Honorably Discharged on August 1, 1975.

On December 27, 1995 Jerry married Wendy Koziara, welcoming Aaron and later Michael into their family.  They raised their boys in Hettinger, but Jerry's lifelong truck driving career eventually took him to Colorado and later Minnesota where he retired from Yellow Transportation in 2017.

He is survived by sons Aaron Koziara and Michael Hehn; siblings Larry (Karen) Hehn of Hettinger, ND, Cheryl Rowlette of Renton, WA, Roger (Susan) Hehn of Hermiston, OR, and Connie (Randy) Burwick of Hettinger, ND.  Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Brady 21, Payton 19, Corbyn 17, Dillon 16, Justice 15, Mikenlee 12, Elizah 10, Serenity 10, and Khloe 6, along with his special honorary family, Jennifer Jacobson and Christopher Johnson, parents of "Papa's babies", Jaxson and Kendra, numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Milbert and Violet Hehn, and special friend Kathy Zaczkowski Jacobson.

Jerry was born with a wandering soul.  He loved life and enjoyed long trips riding his Harley-Davidson through all Continental US states and into Canada and Mexico.  He often posted on Facebook pics of his journey, "Beer-Thirty" pics and comments, and jokes about the rain cloud he swore always seemed to follow him.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting when able, but was most happy when he was helping others and spending quality time with friends and family.  He was the most generous and caring man, and was always more concerned about others over himself.  As a good friend of his said "To know Jerry was to love Jerry".

Ride safe beloved father, brother and friend and don't take any wooden nickels.  You will be dearly missed.
