Funeral services for Jerald Lee "Jerry" Lutz, 69, of Reeder, ND will be Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Reeder, ND. Rev. Stephanie Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger, ND and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday morning.

JERALD LEE "Jerry" LUTZ was born on February 20, 1940 in Redmond, OR to William and Vera (Richardson) Lutz. At a young age, his family moved to Reeder, ND where he attended school and graduated from Reeder High School in 1958. Jerry attended NDSU in Fargo and Wahpeton State School of Science. Jerry met Kathleen Swenson and they were united in marriage on April 19, 1960. Following his college education, Jerry was employed by the Reeder Elevator and the Knife River Coal Mine before moving to Bismarck where he worked for Montana Dakota Utilities. In 1972, Jerry and Kathy moved to Evansville, MN and farmed for 14 years before moving to Rapid City, SD where he owned and operated several businesses.


In 2002, Jerry and Kathy retired in Reeder, ND where he owned and operated Lutzy's Bar, formerly known as the Lutz and Doe Bar, which Jerry's father, Bill owned for many years. Jerry was a sports fan and loved the Minnesota Twins and especially the Vikings. He and Kathy enjoyed camping and Jerry will be remembered for pestering his grandkids and pinching their cheeks. Jerry Lutz passed away suddenly at his home in Reeder, ND on Friday, May 22, 2009. He will be greatly missed by his wife and their children and the crew at Lutzy's.


Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Kathy, of Reeder, ND and their children, Brenda White, Alexandria, MN, Bryan (Jackie) Lutz, Marysville, WA, Burnell (Andrea) Lutz, Shawnee, KS and Bryce (Angy) Lutz, Summerset, SD and 14 Grandchildren; three brothers, Keith Lutz, Omaha, NE, Lon Lutz, Mendota Heights, MN and Dale Dupong, Minneapolis, MN; a step-brother, Larry Dupong, Bismarck, ND and a step-sister, Virginia Knutson, Bismarck, ND. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and Bill, a step-father, Gene Dupong, step-mother, Helen Lutz, his grandparents, Selva Vadnie, Jacob and Maggie Lutz and several aunts and uncles.
