Jeanette Brodehl Memorial Folder
Jeanette Irene Brodehl, age 93, was called to her eternal home on Wednesday December 11,2024. Jeanette was born on March 19, 1931 to Reinhold and Vera (Perry) Weishaar. She grew up on the family farm south of Elgin. She attended a country school and completed eighth grade. Jeanette married David Brodehl on April 18th 1949. They made their home on a farm south of Elgin and were blessed with four daughters, Phyllis Ketterling, Delores Schatz, Barbara Heaton, and Alice Fitterer.
Jeanette was the epitome of a farmer's wife. She would and could do it all. She worked in the fields, milked cows, raised over three hundred chickens( she was often referred to as the egg lady of the community) , and planted a huge garden. Jeanette was an avid reader and wrote many letters everyday, having penpals all over the United States. She seldom missed a day of writing in her journal. Each daughter still has the crocheted Christmas ornaments she made for them many years ago, her hands were always busy. Jeanette was active in her church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Jeanette often took note of the weather and received a 30 year certificate for participation in the Atmospheric Resource Board Cooperative Observer Network.
In her later years she enjoyed farming through the eyes of her grandson Michael, who farmed her land. She especially found pleasure in helping him move equipment from field to field and always had a meal prepared so they could eat together.
Because of her failing health she spent the past fifteen months in her youngest daughter's (Alice) home surrounded by her new-found friends where she received compassionate thoughtful care. Due to a fall on December 1st she was hospitalized and then entered Missouri Slope Nursing Home on December 9th.
Left to mourn her loss are her four daughters, son-in-law David Heaton, and her seven grandchildren Latasha (Brian) Zuroff (children Aidan, Quinn, Macy) Amanda Schatz, Michael Schatz, Russell (Jenni) Heaton (children McKenna, Brooklyn, Reagan), Randy (Melissa) Heaton (child Charlee), Nathan Fitterer, and Mariah Fitterer. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, husband David Brodehl, infant brother Clinton, sister Mildred Skretteberg, brother-in-law Rod Skretteberg, and son-in-law Martin Ketterling.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin, ND.
Per Jeanette's request, an immediate family only service will be held.
