Funeral services for Jean M. Baumgarten, age 74, of Lemmon, SD, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, SD.  Pastor TJ Shockley will officiate with burial to follow in the Greenhill Cemetery at Lemmon.

Jean Marie Larson was born on July 17, 1948, in Minneapolis, MN, to Floyd and Alice (Brown) Larson.  She was born and raised in Minneapolis, MN.  On December 17, 1966 she was united in marriage to Daniel Lee Baumgarten in Lemmon, SD.  In 1970 Chad was born and Danelle in 1973.

Jean and Dan fostered numerous children over a 15 year period.  Through fostering they adopted Delvin, Lance, Kaylyn and LaRae.  She devoted her life to her family and was known to be a kind soul and gave the best hugs.  Jean was more than happy to be central figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren.  Anyone who knew this knew that she was a star in their eyes and that's all that ever mattered to her.

Jean started her love for children at a young age.  She was active in the local community and served on City Council and CAVA boards.  Jean was an avid sports fan; she golfed, bowled, threw darts and played softball.  She loved watching her kids and grandkids play sports.  Through the years Jean had various jobs but her love was to care for children.

Jean passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND.

She is survived by her two sons, Chad (Celena) Baumgarten, Lemmon, SD, and Delvin Baumgarten; three daughters, Danelle (Kelly) Walker, Miles City, MT, Kaylyn (Stephen) Barker and LaRae Baumgarten, all of Aberdeen, NC; grandchildren, Drew (Taylor Jones) Senger, Jaden (Kaitlyn Perkins) Senger, Jax Walker, Alex (Casey) Walker, Jesse (Jasmine) Walker, Chris Walker, Tashina Walker, Asianna Walker and RandiRae Walker, Ashley Price, Lyndse (Jacob) Shockley, Brandi (Ben) Stoddard, Preston Baumgarten, Elijah Baumgarten, Kylie Baumgarten, Aleyna Baumgarten, Stephen Barker, Bella Barker, Alex, Carter and Kelis; great-grandchildren, Mia and Cayden Shockley, Kolby Stoddard, Jack, Zayden, Rylan, Chloe and ZJ Walker and two more on the way; two brothers, Dan and Jeff Larson; one sister, Sandra (Robert) Nehring; special friend, Donna Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan; one son, Lance Baumgarten; two brothers, Ronald and Floyd Larson; one sister, Kathy Larson; one sister-in-law, Lynn Larson; nephew, Kane Larson; great-nephew, Riley Baumgarten; three angel grandchildren; and one angel great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, SD.
