Janice Ann Domjahn was born on February 22, 1944, on her parents' farm south of Mott in Castle Rock Township in Hettinger County, ND, the daughter of Clarence and Anna (Kamrath) Domjahn. She was the second child of three with an older brother, Rev Roger, and a younger sister, Mary Jane, who left this world at a young age.
Janice grew up on the family farm and graduated from Mott Lincoln High School. After high school, she attended BJC and later in life went on to Dickinson State University to complete her Associates Degree.
The love of her life, Ronald Swindler, grew up just four miles from her. They were married on December 28th, 1963. Their family grew with their three daughters: Desiree', Margo and Cameo. They enjoyed life together with snowmobiling, travelling, and camping. They were soulmates.
They were a true partnership in both their relationship and their farming and ranching operation. She was an active part of the farming operation both in management decisions and operating equipment. She ran every piece of farm equipment except the windrower. In 1990, Janice began working for the Good Samaritan Society Center – Mott as Purchasing and Contract Services Manager and continued up until the time of her passing.
Jan had many passions and talents. She loved the outdoors, music, animals, gardening and agriculture. Jan mowed a "Prayer Path" within the shelterbelt at the farm adding benches, bird feeders and crosses along the way for meditation and prayer. She also liked to cross-country ski a couple times a year. Jan had a great love for music as she had a beautiful voice and was a great pianist. She was found playing the piano daily for devotions at the nursing home.
She had a strong passion for faith. God was the focal point of her life. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and also started and attended many Bible Study Groups. She participated in a program for laypersons (Gifts Program) and continued her work with Pastor Joe. She looked forward to these classes and would always attend even during the worst weather conditions. Even during her illness at the end, she was still sharing the Word of God to visitors.
Jan battled cancer several times until she surrendered to it in January. At the time of her first diagnosis, she made a commitment to her body to improve her health. Jan's passion for good health was endless, not only for herself, but her entire family. " Dr Jan" always made her family's health a top priority, along with her personal cancer treatment research. Even in her last days, she made sure the girls ordered more vitamins for everyone.
Janice passed away peacefully in her home with her husband and three daughters by her side. She will be deeply missed but will now live in eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her husband, Ron, their daughters, Desiree' (Rick) Poehls, of Mott, Margo (Rick) Hintz, of Bentley, & Cameo (Loren) Frieze of Mott; her brother, Rev. Roger (Marlayne) Domyahn, Edina, MN and her six grandchildren, Dylan and Brandi Poehls, Ryan, Reed and Rory Hintz and Pierson Frieze.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Jane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Good Samaritan Society Center or the Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Mott.
