Jane Woodard Hauser was born on September 21, 1934 to Clyde and Edith Woodard in Satanta, KS. At the age of two the family moved to Wetmore, CO and ranched until the kids were of school age. They then moved to Canyon City, CO, where Jane attended school until 7th grade.
In 1948, the family moved east of Faith three miles, where they also ranched. Jane graduated from Faith High School in 1953. Following her graduation, she cooked for a threshing crew and was such good help; they invited her to accompany them to Alaska to work. She continued this adventure by moving to Washington State until Orville started sending her letters and convinced her to move back to Faith. They were married on February 6, 1954 and purchased the Usta store.
Their first born son Larry was born in 1955, followed by Darwin, Vicki, and Loretta. Besides raising her four children, Jane was an active member at St. Paul's Lutheran church, was a Sunday school teacher, cooked at local cafes, and was an active member of the Moreau River Extension Club. When Larry started high school they bought a house in town to be closer to school, so along with her own kids she boarded many other country kids. As the kids became more active in school and activities, Orville and Jane decided to sell the Usta store in 1972.
They continued to ranch until Orville's passing in 1991. Jane continued to be an active part of the community by helping care for various friends and neighbors and helping friends and family any way she could. She looked forward to Spring, when she could sit outside with a cup of coffee and listen to the meadowlarks sing! In later years Jane divided her time between Faith and Sturgis always staying close to the highlight of her life, her grandkids and great grandkids.
Jane passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home in Faith, SD.
