Mass of Christian Burial for Bud will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND. Fr. Hilzendeger will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.

Bud was born August 14, 1933 in Hettinger, ND to Halvor and Bernice "Tiny" (Butcher) Halvorson. He spent his early years on a farm by the Cedar River near Wolf Butte, but moved to a farm outside of Bucyrus after the river flooded in the late 1930s. Bud attended school in Bucyrus, graduating in 1951.
While at a dance in Haynes, ND, Bud met Evelyn Magelky and they were married on February 21, 1955. They lived outside of Bucyrus where they farmed and ranched while raising their three children. In addition to farming, Bud worked for short periods at Clark's Texaco in Hettinger, the Bucyrus elevator, and as a seed salesman. They moved into Bucyrus in 1963 and quit raising cattle shortly afterward. They quit farming in 1978. In 1966, Bud started working at Knife River Coal Mine at Gascoyne where he worked his way up to dragline operator and finally to Foreman in 1978. He retired from Knife River in 1989.
Bud and Evelyn started spending winters in Arizona and eventually moved there full time. They moved back to Dickinson, ND in 2005. He loved to play cards and putter in the garage – he had the neatest, most organized work bench.
Bud is remembered as a hard-working gentleman who had a great sense of humor.
Bud is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Evelyn, children Jim (Mary), Doug (Lucinda), and Roxi (Eddie) McKune; grandchildren JC Halvorson, James Michael Halvorson, Becca Fetter, Sarah Halvorson, Katie Keating, and Jason Halvorson; 3 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sister-in-law Connie Wolf, brother-in-law Larry Magelky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Steve and Emma Magelky, and grandson Michael Fetter.
